Throne Room

I am continuing work on dynamic perspective in my work. I took one of my previous thumbnails and built on it to make this work in progress. At this point the looseness and size of it reminds me of a storyboard square.

Composition Practice

I need to practice composition for my landscape concepts so I created some black and white thumbnails of a bunch of different scenes. I definitely have my favorites in the bunch. Which do you like?

Random Inspiration

I had a bit of random inspiration today and decided to go with it. Here is a work in progress. The working title of this piece is: The Gift I Give To You

Color Options

I just started playing around with various color options. The last one is a total copy of the Iron Man color scheme. I just wanted to see how it looked.

Greyscale Finish

I am pretty much calling the greyscale version of this character finished. I fixed the foot and just continued refining.

More refining

I worked more on refining the character. I worked on bringing back the symmetry in parts of the armor and also on just fixing some problem areas like the characters left foot.

Work Work Work

Just added more detail today to my character and started trying to figure out those hands.....ugh hands:

If Your Canvas Is Blank.....Fill It Up

I was watching a video recently where the artist took pictures of complicated pieces of machinery and then turned them into these awesome environment concepts. I saw this as a way to overcome that initial fear that comes with starting out a new painting with a completely blank canvas. I definitely wanted to try this out for myself, so I visited CG Textures and picked out a few machinery textures that I liked and started painting. Here is what I have come up with so far. The top one changed so much you would not even be able to tell what it was before but It definitely was less intimidating to start painting on top of another image rather than just a completely blank canvas.

City Speed Paint

I created a speed paint of a futuristic city for Chico State Game Studios. I had the idea of a city that is made up of materials that have been salvaged from many different places because of this every building looks different.

Guns!

I had to create a few gun concepts for a futuristic shooter game that Chico State Game studios is creating. I created a assault rifle type gun, a sniper rifle and a pistol sidearm.

Enter Realism

I started to add some more realistic shading to the characters armor. Mainly I'm just trying to figure out where the light is coming from and the materials the armor is made out of.

Head Tangent

At this point I decided I wanted to start thinking about how the head/ helmet of my character was going to look. I am still undecided but I got down a few good ideas.

Bringing Dynamic Back

In looking at what I had done so far I started to realize that a lot of the dynamic feel of the original thumbnail was being lost as I tried to correct the anatomy of the character. It was suggested to me that a simple curve added to the characters left shin could help bring back some of that dynamic feel (even though anatomically this is not really correct).

Block In

I started to pull out major forms of the armor that I envisioned for this character by adding some grey values.

The Chosen One

After looking through all the thumbnails I did there were really just a few that stood out to me and really caught my interest. One in particular just felt very dynamic and interesting so I cut it out made a new larger canvas and pasted/enlarged the thumbnail on that canvas (It looks super pixalated because I enlarged such a small thumbnail but it's just a base for my concept so it does not matter):

Starting My Character

For one of my concept art pieces for my portfolio building class I decided to create a character. I wanted to create a full body character piece to show off my knowledge of the humanoid form and proportions. I started out just creating tons of thumbnails. From here I will choose a few that look good to me and experiment with them. At this point I dont have a specific character in mind but I am really just trying to create a dynamic pose.

Welcome

Welcome to my concept art blog! Here I will be posing work I have done for my portfolio building class and Chico State Game Studios. Hope you enjoy all the work!
